Chief Steward(ess)

Chief Steward(ess) Job Description

As a Chief Steward(ess) you should be a detail-oriented organiser, proficient in all the interior departments on board a yacht including service, housekeeping and laundry.  You will understand that it is crucial to work in harmony with the Head Chef, ensuring that food is served like clockwork and to perfection. In the role of Chief Steward/Stewardess, you will manage and motivate your team so that owners and guests will always appreciate the positive, welcoming atmosphere your department has created on board.

Having reached the Chief Steward/ess status, you will have perfected your skillset along the way with relevant professional training such as protocol, event organisation, flower arranging, butler service, bookkeeping and ISM.  This training for the Chief Steward/ess job will have enabled you to gain the respect of your team of Stewards(esses) as you, in turn, train them up to perfection.

Chief Steward/Chief Stewardess jobs require wide-ranging qualities. On busier yachts, you should be very stress-resistant and dynamic with high energy levels as you will be setting the pace for the rest of your team over long periods. On charter yachts you will put your creativity and innate taste to work imagining elaborate table settings and theme evenings. On new build yachts you may even have a say in the setup of the interiors.

In all cases, when guests are on board you will ensure your team provides exemplary service by anticipating the client’s every need without ever being intrusive.
