Bosun

Bosun Job Description

The Bosun manages the Deckhands and is typically a senior Deckhand willing to take on additional responsibilities. The Bosun is generally the main tender driver and is responsible for organising deck operations and supplies, as well as storage and use of toys and tenders XX.

The Bosun reports to the First Mate or Second or Third Officer, depending on the yacht’s size.

To become a Bosun, you will have worked your way up through the ranks from deckhand, then lead deckhand if you’ve been working on superyachts, and this over a few years. You will have the requisite solid experience in product knowledge and be proficient in exterior maintenance, tender operations and of course VIP client service.

Your deck qualifications will be diverse and invariably include PDSD, PBL2, PWCI, PADI dive certificates and steps towards your OOW modules.  If you’ve previously transferred across from the merchant marine, you may also offer a cadetship.

You will inspire your team of deckhands and day workers to give their all to ensure a spotlessly clean, orderly and smooth-running deck department.
